Volunteers
Westside Players is proud to be Pocatello’s oldest community theatre. As a non-profit organization everyone involved in the production (ushers, front desk, actors, directors, technicians, and the board of diretors) volunteer their time. As volunteers, they are not paid a single penny for the hours of dedication and hard work.
We have as much fun performing as you do watching! If you want to join in the fun, Westside is ready to welcome area residents as volunteers for any of our productions. If you would like to volunteer please contact any member of our staff, call 234-2654, or e-mail us at contact@westsideplayers.com.
There are a number of ways you can volunteer:
Acting (See audition page)
Advertising and Promotions – We are constantly working to get our name and work into the community. If you have skills in advertising and promotions, whether it be an eye for design, product placement, or any other capabilities, then please let us know.
Costuming – including sewing, patterning, sewing, pulling from existing stock, etc.
Direction – we welcome strong directors and assistant directors from the community. We have put together a document which characterizes a number of ways in which we operate to acclimate new directors to our environment. It can be downloaded here.
Grant writing and submissions – As a non-profit, we apply for grants and rely upon generous donations from foundations and individuals.
Lighting design and light board operation – Making sure that the audience can see our performances and that the lights come up at the right time is extremely important.
Prop creation and management – Finding a rifle that will shoot out an umbrella is a very specific challenge required of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolfe. It takes a very dedicated individual to either create or ferret out the locations of many of the extremely specialized props needed for the theatre. It also takes an exquisite amount of organization to ensure that they are in the right place at the right time for seamless transitions in the plays action.
Scenic design, painting, and construction – Every step of the set creation process is performed by volunteers as well. We have put together a number of ways in which our theatre operates in terms of set construction and design for scenographers, carpenters, painters, and all of the other necessary roles. It can be downloaded here.
Stage management – having someone to keep track of the production and keep it running on-time and efficiently, as well as being able to adapt to any situation that can occur during a performance is extremely important to each production.
Ushering – Have a free night and a smile? Come down and help us get our patrons to their seats safely and happily.
Numerous other roles are required to mount a production for the stage as well. If you are curious and would like to help in any capacity, please do not hesitate to let us know. We are comprised of a number of community members and theatre-lovers just like yourself.
